A Little Deeper

The founder started the company after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. After the diagnosis, Deej did everything in her power to help her mother by conducting research on ways to heal the body naturally and holistically. She put her own dreams on hold, stopped her applications to law school, and enrolled in an herbal medicine program. She began experimenting with ingredients such as sea moss and soursop leaves. This was the origin of Deej with the Tea. Today, all of Deej’s products are homemade and vegan-friendly. Deej creates health-filled but tasty products such as her famous strawberry-infused lemonade with sea moss.

Where does sea moss come from?

There are multiple different kinds of sea moss classified depending on what part of the world the sea moss comes from. Wildcrafted sea moss usually originates from the rocky Atlantic coasts; primarily in North America, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands. Divers harvest the sea moss directly from the ocean once the sea moss has grown naturally.

Deej’s sea moss comes directly from the ocean in St. Lucia where she gets the Gracilaria and Eucheuma Cottonii strains of her sea moss. Deej reminds us to beware of pool-grown sea moss- while it is often marketed the same, it is the processed version of the real thing.

What does she use in her products besides sea moss?

Deej’s sea moss gel is infused with organic fruits and fresh spring water. She sweetens her products using agave nectar, a low-glycemic-index sweetener that the body tolerates better and absorbs more slowly than traditional refined sugars.

Here is a shortlist of the various elements, chemicals, trace minerals, and vitamins typically found in sea moss:
